This article is an overview of the Jira integration with Pendo Listen, how it works, and what the user experience is for Jira and Pendo users. For information about how to set up the integration, see Set up the Jira integration with Pendo Listen.
Functionality
The Jira integration with Listen allows you to deliver requirements to engineering teams in Jira that you can also keep track of in Pendo. This helps to unify the feedback and prioritization process in Listen with the development process in Jira. Specifically, the integration allows you to:
- Create and link new Jira Stories from an idea in Listen.
- Search for and link existing Jira Stories to an idea in Listen.
- From an idea in Listen, see the high-level details of Jira issues that are linked to the idea.
- Open linked Jira issues from an idea.
- From an issue in Jira, see links to ideas in Listen.
- Open linked ideas in Pendo from a Jira issue.
You can set up the integration with one Jira instance for each Pendo subscription.

User experience of the integration
After integrating Jira with Pendo Listen, you can do the following:
- Create a Jira issue from an idea
- Link an existing Jira issue to an idea
- View linked Jira issues on an idea
- View linked ideas on a Jira issue
Create a Jira issue from an idea
Listen users with Manager role permissions can create a new Jira issue from an idea. The Pendo user that creates an issue from within Listen is set to the Reporter in the Jira ticket.
- From an idea in Validate, select Actions.
- Choose Link to Jira. This opens a window from where you can search for existing Jira issues.
- In the Create new tab, choose the relevant project and issue type.
- Enter a meaningful summary and description.
- Use the Show more fields dropdown to choose and set other details, such as Assignee, Team, Date, Story point estimate, and so on.
- Select Create issue.
A new Jira issue is created and appears in the Linked tab of your idea in Pendo. Additionally, the idea that the Jira issue is linked to appears in the Jira issue.
Link an existing Jira issue to an idea
You can link existing Jira issues to ideas in Listen by searching for the issue using the issue key, title text, or description text.
- From an idea in Validate, select Actions.
- Choose Link to Jira. This opens a window from where you can search for existing Jira issues.
- Use the search tool in the Link to existing tab to find an existing Jira issue using the Issue Key, Summary, or Project name.
- Select Link to Jira to continue.
The Jira issue now appears in the Linked tab of your idea in Pendo and the idea it's linked to appears in the Jira issue.
Note: If you've set a custom Jira avatar (icon) for an issue type, the Link to existing dropdown menu shows a default Jira avatar for those issues instead.
View Jira issues linked to an idea
You can view the linked Jira issue’s Key and Status from within the details of an idea and open the linked Jira issue from the idea.
- From an idea in Validate, open the Linked tab. This shows a list of any Jira issues (by Issue Key and Summary of the ticket) that are linked to the idea.
- Select the down arrow (v) to expand an issue and see its details. This shows you the Status, Due date, and Parent ticket for the Jira issue.
- Select the Open in Jira icon next to the title of the issue to see more details. This opens Jira in a new tab of your browser with the Jira issue open.
View ideas linked to a Jira issue
Ideas are linked to an issue in Jira from the Pendo section inside the Jira ticket. This allows you to see all ideas that are linked to an issue and to go to a linked idea in Pendo directly from within the Jira ticket. Select the idea to open it in Pendo.
