Retrieve Visitor ID through Okta

This article covers the process to configure the Pendo Launcher extension to retrieve Visitor ID from Okta, which involves: 

1. Creating a new app integration in Okta.
2. Configuring the app integration and adding redirect URLs.
3. Adding the Client ID and Okta domain in Pendo.

Step 1. Create a new app integration in Okta

1. Sign in to your Okta organization with an administrator account.
2. Go to the Admin Console. 
3. From the left-side menu, expand Applications and select Applications from the nested menu.
4. Select Create App Integration at the top of the page.
   
   
   
5. In the Create a new app integration window that opens, select OIDC - OpenID Connect as the Sign-in method and Single-Page Application as the Application type.
6. Select Next and move onto Step 2 in this article.
   
   

Step 2. Configure the app integration and add redirect URLs

In the New Single-Page App Integration page in Okta:

1. Give the integration a meaningful name, such as “Pendo Launcher” or “Pendo Extension.” 
2. Under Sign-in redirect URIs, add the redirect URIs for each of the browsers you plan to use:
   • For Chrome:
     • https://epnhoepnmfjdbjjfanpjklemanhkjgil.chromiumapp.org/idp

     • chrome-extension://epnhoepnmfjdbjjfanpjklemanhkjgil

   • For Edge:
     • https://lgpofjmgggolmabddgdmbgipcnblpnbm.chromiumapp.org/idp

     • chrome-extension://lgpofjmgggolmabddgdmbgipcnblpnbm
       
       
       
       

3. Delete any pre-generated Sign-out redirect URIs.
4. Under Assignments:
   • Select Allow everyone in your organization to access for Controlled access.
   • Select Enable immediate access with Federation Broker Mode.
     
     
     
     
5. Select Save.
6. From the details page of the app integration, select Okta API Scopes.
7. Find the okta.users.read.self entry at the bottom of the page and select Grant.
   

Step 3. Collect Client and Tenant IDs

After the Okta app integration is created and configured, Pendo needs you to send the Client ID and your Okta domain to complete the configuration.

1. From the details page of the app integration in Okta, select Details from the top of the page.
2. Copy the Client ID value.
3. Copy the domain for your Okta organization, which looks something like pendo.okta.com.

Step 4. Set up IdP for visitor identification in Pendo

1. In Pendo, go to Settings > Subscription settings > Extension.
2. Select Use IdP for visitor identification.
3. Choose Okta from the Select identity provider dropdown menu.
4. Enter the Client ID and Okta domain.
5. Select Save configuration.

Your Pendo subscription is now configured to interact with Okta using the provided Visitor IDs.
