Watch replays across browser tabs (beta)

Last updated:

Multi-tab mode in Session Replay allows you to watch visitor interactions across multiple browser tabs, creating a comprehensive view of the visitor's experience. This helps you understand complex workflows where users navigate between tabs to complete tasks.

Using multi-tab mode, you can:

  • Watch continuous user journeys.

  • View metadata and detailed event logs.

  • Comment to collaborate and provide context.

  • Share clips of key moments.

Note: This offering is currently in closed beta, available to select Pendo customers for testing. If you're interested in getting early access and providing feedback, contact your Pendo account representative.

Open multi-tab replays

To open replays in multi-tab mode, first open a replay from the library. If the visitor interacted across multiple browser tabs during their session, the option View all tabs appears at the top of the replay player.

Selecting View all tabs opens multi-tab mode and combines the visitor's activity across tabs into a single replay. A message appears above the player: "This visitor's activity across multiple tabs is combined into a single replay."

Find multi-tab replays

Multi-tab replay activity doesn’t currently have a unique indicator in the replay library. To locate these replays, select a replay and look for the View all tabs option. This indicates the visitor interacted across multiple tabs.

Use filters in the replay library to narrow your search and identify replays that are likely to span multiple tabs, based on known multi-tab workflows or features.

Navigate between tabs

Selecting a specific tab in the replay player timeline takes you to the first point in the replay when that tab was active. Each tab represents a continuous segment of visitor interactions.

Note: Tabs in multi-tab mode represent the visitor's browser tabs during their session. If a visitor is inactive on a tab for longer than the configured inactivity timeout period, a new tab appears in the replay when they return, even if it's the same browser tab.

Actions unavailable in multi-tab mode

To favorite replays, save clips, add replays to playlists, or create issues, you must exit multi-tab mode. Comments made on individual replays don't appear in multi-tab mode, and comments made in multi-tab mode don't appear on individual replays.

Playback indicators in the replay library aren't updated when viewing in multi-tab mode. Individual replays viewed in multi-tab sessions don't reflect as watched in the library.

Exit multi-tab mode

To return to the original single-tab replay, close the browser tab that opened multi-tab mode. This takes you back to the replay you opened from the library.

You can also open an individual replay for a specific tab by selecting the open icon next to the tab indicator in the event log.
