Duplicate page tags used in guides - can I merge?

Hello,

We have a few duplicate page tags where the name is different but the include rules are identical. These are used in various guides.

For example, the two tags below have identical include rules but are used in two separate guides:

Can I merge these? Or if I delete one tag, will the guide that refers to it still work since the include rule is still included in the other tag?

Thank you,
Jenny

  • Hi Jenny

Assuming the 2 page tags are identical, you could audit the guides that use either and update them so that all consistent;y just just one.  Then you can remove the additional page tag as it's not serving any purpose any more.

I think (but not certain) if you try and remove a page tag that is still associated with a guide then it will either fail or at least give you a warning.

    Hope that helps, Alan

  • Thank you, Alan! Your post helps a lot.

So, it sounds like the guide is connected to the page tag itself and not the URL of the page. It makes sense.

We'll do that audit and start removing duplicate pages.

    Thanks again!

  • Hi Jenny - Yes, sort of.

A guide is associated with a page tag (unless it's Sitewide), which can have one or more URL definitions.

So if you audit and update your guides to just use one of your two identical page tags, then you can remove the other one and avoid any confusion going forward.
