Merging Features

You can merge Features in two ways:

Newly merged Features have "In processing" next to their name. Depending on how much data is in your subscription, this can take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour.

Merge using the Visual Design Studio

For information about the Visual Design Studio, see Tagging with the Visual Design Studio.

  1. Navigate to Product > Features > Tag Features.
  2. Enter the URL of the page of the new Feature you want to merge with an existing Feature.
  3. Choose a tagging mode: Tag side-by-side or Tag in an overlay. For more information, see Tagging with the Visual Design Studio.
  4. Select Tag Feature in the bottom-right corner of the Visual Design Studio.
  5. Choose the UI element that you want to tag as a Feature in Pendo. For guidance on selecting elements to tag, see Tagging and viewing Features.
  6. Choose Merge with Existing. This reveals a dropdown menu of tagged Features in Pendo.
  7. Select an existing Feature from the dropdown menu.
  8. Verify the Feature Element Matching for the new Feature.
  9. If appropriate, update the Page Location for the Feature.
  10. Select Save in the bottom-right corner.

Navigate back to Product > Features, and search for your Feature. Once the feature has processed, you can select the Feature name to see its details. This page shows your new tagging rule or rules alongside the existing tagging rules of the Feature it's merged with.

Merge from an existing Feature

If you don't need the point-and-click functionality of the Visual Design Studio and you already know the CSS selector for the UI element of the Feature you're merging, you can instead navigate to an existing Feature's details page and add the rule there.

If you want to merge a new Feature with an existing Feature:

  1. Navigate to Product > Features.
  2. Find and select the existing Feature you want to merge with. This open that Feature's details page.
  3. Select Add Rule and enter the CSS selector of the UI element you want to include in that Feature. You can add as many rules as you like.

If you're merging two existing Features:

  1. Navigate to Product > Features.
  2. Find and select one of the existing Features you want to merge. This open that Feature's details page.
  3. Copy the rules for this Feature to use later.
  4. Navigate back to Product > Features.
  5. Find and select the other existing Feature you want to merge with to open its details page.
  6. Select Add Rule and paste the rules you want to include in that Feature. You can add as many rules as you like. The edited Feature must still process as mentioned above.
  7. Navigate back to Product > Features.
  8. Find and remove the Feature that you copied the rules from.
