The custom domain option in Pendo lets you create a branded URL for your end customers to access Pendo OEM. This article outlines the steps to set up a custom host name for your Pendo OEM subscription.
Understand CNAME
A CNAME (Canonical Name) record is a type of Domain Name System (DNS) that points one domain name to another. It tells browsers that your custom domain is an alias of Pendo's domain so that your end customers can access Pendo OEM through your branded URL.
Set up a custom domain for Pendo OEM
Follow these steps to create a custom host name for your Pendo OEM subscription:
- Choose a custom URL for your end customers to access Pendo OEM. We recommend using a subdomain like
training.example.comrather than a root domain likeexample.com. - Send your chosen host name to your Pendo OEM contact or to pem@pendo.io if you're not sure who that is. Once complete, Pendo sends you verification tokens to confirm that we’re authorized to set up your custom host name.
- Use the verification tokens to create DNS records through your domain registrar (such as GoDaddy or Namecheap) with the exact entries Pendo provided for each record.
- After you add the required DNS records, notify your Pendo OEM contact. Pendo verifies that the records were created correctly and completes the setup of your domain. Once verified, your custom host name is active. If domain verification fails, Pendo checks the tokens, and you'll need to review your DNS entries for accuracy.
- After setup, let your end customers know that they can access Pendo OEM using the custom host name. They may need to check their spam folders and ensure that their IT teams allow emails from that address. Invitations come from no-reply@yourcustomhostname.
