User Experience Lite (UX-Lite) surveys

Last updated:

User Experience Lite (UX-Lite) surveys are a simplified version of the System Usability Scale (SUS) and Usability Metric for User Experience (UMUX) questionnaires. UX-Lite surveys in Sentiment use two questions to measure how useful a product or feature is and how easy it is to use.

Use cases

Use a UX-Lite survey when you want to:

  • Evaluate usability after launching a new feature.
  • Assess the impact of a redesign on the visitor experience.
  • Monitor long-term usability trends using recurring surveys.

Applying the survey to a specific location in your app helps you identify blockers or areas for improvement based on visitor feedback.

UX-Lite survey questions

A standard UX-Lite survey includes two key rating questions, which together determine the overall UX-Lite score:

  • Product capability (usefulness). Does the product's capabilities meet visitor requirements?
  • Ease of use. Is the product easy to use?

Visitors answer both questions using a five or seven-point scale, where one represents the lowest rating. These questions can't be removed or reordered.

The survey also includes an optional open answer question where visitors can provide written feedback. You can customize the wording of this question to match your organization's tone or brand.

Customize your survey

You can customize the non-essential questions in your UX-Lite survey to match your feedback goals. When editing a survey, you can:

  • Add questions. Add open answer, rating scale, or multiple choice questions to your survey.
  • Reorder questions. Use drag and drop to change the order of non-essential questions.
  • Remove questions. Remove any question that doesn't determine the overall UX-Lite score.

The two key questions that determine the overall UX-Lite score are fixed and can't be moved or removed. You also can't add questions to the confirmation message step.

For step-by-step instructions, see Create a UX-Lite survey.

Limitations

Surveys in Sentiment use a fixed template to ensure consistent scoring and reporting. This means you can't:

  • Remove questions that determine the overall survey score.
  • Reorder the questions that determine the overall survey score. They must appear first in the survey.
  • Add additional sections to the "Thank you" message.
  • Combine survey steps into a single step after you've created a survey.

How a UX-Lite score is calculated

UX-Lite scores use a normalized formula that converts responses to the two key questions into a percentage. A breakdown of the individual ratings and overall UX-Lite score is available in the Responses tab of your survey.

For a 5-point scale:

\[ U = 100 \times \frac{Usefulness + Ease Of Use - 2}{8} \]

For a 7-point scale:

\[ U = 100 \times \frac{Usefulness + Ease Of Use - 2}{12} \]
