First Login Ever - Onboarding Popup

Hi All, I am trying to create a segment that will trigger a guide on a user's first login to our platform ever, only. The "first visit" criteria does not seem to be working.

By definition ("First Visit" is the date and time Pendo first received an event for the Visitor.) With that definition, For example, a new user who is added to our platform by an admin. Would that technically be counted as their "first visit" even if they have not yet logged in themselves?

Is there a workaround for this?

  • Hey Tess,

Correct, the Pendo field of "First Visit" is the date that the user logs any event in your platform since the snippet install. One potential workaround is if you have a "User Created" or similar field in your application, you can pass that through the snippet and segment based on that.

  • Hey Tess,

This should still be possible using 'First Visit'. If you want to target new users to see a welcome guide or tour, you can structure a rule like the following:

    • First Visit within last 1 Day
    • First Visit since "Date" (the metadata date you pass in like Angus mentioned)

  • Kross Pham Would I need to use the rules together or can it be one or the other? Also Is it compatible if I use it with other rules like Stage or elements pulled from SFDC?

  • Tess McGraw You can use one or the other.

  • Hello, I know this is a little olrder discussion. I am new to Pendo and am a little unclear as to the steps outlined in this thread?

    I understand this portion:

    • First Visit within last 1 Day

But am unclear as to how to accomplish this portion specifically:

    • First Visit since "Date" (the metadata date you pass in like Angus mentioned)

Is this something that needs to be passed from code based on the date/time the user created their account?

    Furthermore based on Tess' response:

"Would I need to use the rules together or can it be one or the other?"

Are you referring to the OR function when creating the rules (one or the other) or was she referring to using them separately? As in no AND or OR in the rules?

Thank you in advance and apologies for my newb questions :)
