Feature Rules Functionality

I have been trying to figure out how the rules function works for features. Is it an "and" or an "or" thing?

Example - I want to see who opens a module and then clicks save. What would adding two rules of "open module" and "save" do?

1. Only show people who did both

2. Show people who did either

Pendo's guide says this, but I just can't seem to wrap my head around it:
You can also achieve selection combinations by leveraging multiple rules. Multiple feature rules will not show duplicate results. As each rule is processed within the context of a single feature, the total count will skip any event that has already been included by another rule. Determining how many feature rules you will need to accurately capture activity against a particular feature will be entirely dependent on the implementation of your application and the goal you have for the feature you’re tagging.

  • Hey Samantha,

If you have two rules established for feature, let's call them Rule A and Rule B, by including both you will get a count of a total of all clicks on Rule A AND Rule B.  So in the case that Rule A has 10 clicks and Rule B has 5, you'd have a total of 15 click events for that feature, if the features are distinct.

The phrasing here "Multiple feature rules will not show duplicate results. As each rule is processed within the context of a single feature, the total count will skip any event that has already been included by another rule."  Indicates that there are multiple clickable features that match Rule A and Rule B, they would only be counted once.

Having two rules, would not result in #1 listed above, but rather #2.

  • Thank you for the clarification! I did add two rules, and for some reason I'm getting fewer results. Do you have any idea why that would be?
