Nested Segments!
Hey Everyone,
Exciting new tool in the world of segments - Find the documentation here in our Knowledge Base.
What is it?
With Nested Segments, build more sophisticated segments by adding additional rules to pre-existing segments. You can analyze product usage about specific groups and build guides targeted to more complex segments, all without recreating segments.
What’s new?
Combine existing segments with new segments or rules using AND / OR operators and solve for use cases like:
- Maintain an accurate and complete exclusion list. For example, send NPS surveys only to users who have not seen one in the past month.
- Easily share knowledge about shared segments created by other team members. For example, use commonly used segments (i.e., current customers) without having to ask the segment creator for all the rules to recreate the segment.
Available in Segment Builder, Draft Segments in Data Explorer, and Custom Segments for building guides. A maximum of 5 segments can be referenced in a single nested segment.

Hi Charles Helms!
Thank you for writing this article.
My organization is very interested in nested segments. However, the maximum of 5 segments prevents us from using the feature in a scalable way.
Can this maximum be raised? If not, are there plans to do so in the future?
Thank you in advance!
Our organization has the same concerns as Carter above.
This would be an extremely valuable feature if nested segments could be re-nested or more than 5 segments could be included. Our org, for example, would need up to 50 segments to roll up to one.
Can this maximum be raised? If not, are there plans to do so in the future?
