App health (beta)

Last updated:

App health gives you a portfolio-level view of how all your apps are performing in one place. Instead of analyzing apps one by one, you can compare key metrics side by side and identify which apps are growing, stalling, or need attention.

Use cases

Use App health to:

  • See all apps in your subscription in a single table.
  • Compare adoption and engagement across apps with consistent metrics.
  • Spot top movers and outliers without building custom dashboards.
  • Filter by segment, metadata, and date range to focus on specific audiences.
  • Compare performance across segments or metadata values to see which audiences influence your key metrics.
  • Share a view of app performance with other users in your subscription.

App health is designed for portfolio-level comparison across your portfolio. For a detailed analysis of a single app, use Pages, Features, funnels, and other reports in Analytics.

Understand the App health page

To access the App health page, go to Product > Apps from the left-side menu.

App health contains three main areas:

  • Filters. Controls what data populates on the rest of the page.
  • Engagement metrics. Highlights aggregate metrics across all filtered apps.
  • Applications table. Lists all apps and their key metrics in a single view.

Filters

App health uses the same global filter bar as other areas of Pendo. By default, the page shows data for everyone across all apps for the last 30 days. Use the filter bar to adjust the scope:

  • Segment. Filter by an existing segment, such as "Active customers" or "Trial users," to compare app performance for a specific group.
  • Date range. Change the reporting window, such as Last 7 days, Last 30 days, or a custom range. All metrics on the page update to match, and trend percentages compare to the previous matching period.
  • Account. Filter the page by a specific account.
  • App. Filter the page to a specific app or view all apps.
  • Metadata filters. Select + Add metadata filter to filter by visitor-level or account-level attributes, such as role, region, plan, or customer tier, including historical metadata and event properties.
  • Comparison filters. Compare metrics across multiple segments or metadata values. For more information, see Compare apps by segment or metadata below.

Filters apply to both the Engagement metrics section and the Applications table.

Engagement metrics

The Engagement metrics section provides an aggregate view of key metrics across all your filtered apps during the selected date range. Use this section to monitor overall performance shifts.

Metrics shown include:

  • Visitors. The number of unique visitors who used the app in the selected date range, plus the percent change compared to the previous matching period.
  • New visitors. The number of visitors who used the app for the first time in the selected date range, plus the percent change.
  • Accounts. The number of unique accounts with activity in the app during the selected date range, plus the percent change.
  • New accounts. The number of accounts that had their first recorded activity in the app during the selected date range, plus the percent change.
  • Average session. The average session duration for activity in the app during the selected date range, plus the percent change.
  • NPS. The app's Net Promoter Score based on its most recently active linked survey. If no survey is linked, the column shows the option to Link NPS.
  • PMF. The app's Product Market Fit score based on its most recently active linked survey. If no survey is linked, the column shows the option to Link PMF survey.
  • UX-Lite. The app's UX-Lite score based on its most recently active linked survey. If no survey is linked, the column shows the option to Link UX-Lite survey.
  • CSAT. The app's CSAT score based on its most recently active linked survey. If no survey is linked, the column shows the option to Link CSAT survey.
  • Visitor retention. The percentage of identified visitors who returned to the app in a subsequent period. Hover over the metric to view the specific cohort period. Anonymous visitors aren't included in retention metrics.
  • Account retention. The percentage of identified accounts that returned to the app in a subsequent period. Hover over the metric to view the specific cohort period. Anonymous visitors aren't included in retention metrics.
  • New visitor retention. The percentage of first-time identified visitors who returned to your app in a subsequent period. Hover over the metric to view the specific cohort period. Anonymous visitors aren't included in retention metrics.
  • New account retention. The percentage of first-time identified accounts that returned to your app in a subsequent period. Hover over the metric to view the specific cohort period. Anonymous visitors aren't included in retention metrics.
  • Rage clicks. The number of times visitors repeatedly clicked in a focused area of the UI within a short timeframe during the selected date range.
  • Dead clicks. The number of clicks that had no visible effect in the application UI during the selected date range.
  • Error clicks. The number of clicks that generated a client-side JavaScript error within 100 milliseconds during the selected date range.
  • U-turns. The number of times visitors navigated to a Page and returned to the previous Page within seven seconds during the selected date range.

Each metric card shows:

  • The current aggregate value for the metric.
  • The aggregate value for the previous matching period.
  • The percent change compared to the previous matching period.

Applications table

The Applications table lists every app in your subscription that you have permission to view. By default, the table includes the same metrics available in the Engagement metrics section.

Apps_Applications.png

Each metric includes a trend indicator so you can quickly see whether performance is improving or declining relative to the previous period. You can sort by any column to bring your most important apps to the top of the list.

In the top-right corner of the table, you can also:

  • Export all data shown in the table as a CSV file.
  • Add, remove, and reorder columns in the table.
  • Search for a specific app by name to filter the table.

Configure surveys for an app

Survey scores (NPS, PMF, UX-Lite, CSAT) in the Applications table are based on the linked survey for each app. You can link a survey to an app, or choose No survey to exclude an app from the metric.

To configure a survey for one or more apps:

  1. In the Applications table, select Link [Survey Type] survey next to any app. This opens the configuration window for that survey type.
  2. For each app, select a survey from the dropdown, or select No survey to exclude the app from this metric.

  3. Select Save.

Your changes apply to the corresponding survey column for the affected apps.

Compare apps by segment or metadata

You can compare data by segment or metadata to understand how different visitors drive performance across your apps. Comparisons apply to both the Engagement Metrics section and the Applications table.

To compare data:

  1. Select + Add comparison in the filter bar.

  2. Choose Segment or Metadata from the Compare by dropdown.
  3. Make your selections.
    • If comparing by segment, select each segment you want to compare, up to four total.
    • If comparing by metadata, select the metadata field, operator, and at least two values. You can enter and select any value, but when searching for metadata values, only metadata set up as a Text type under Settings > Metadata populate in the list.
  4. Select Apply.

Share a view of App health

Before sharing, be aware that recipients only see the apps they have permission to view based on their own subscription access. They won't see apps or data outside of their permissions, even if those were visible in your view.

To share a specific App health view:

  1. Configure the page the way you want it, including filters, metrics, and table settings.
  2. Select Share.

  3. Copy the link and share it with your colleagues.

The shared link opens App health with your selected filters and settings applied as a one‑time view, rather than changing their saved filters on other pages in Pendo.
