Shape of Resource Center badge

In the Resource Center Overview article, it indicates you can customize the badge icon, but it also says it's limited to a circular shape. Is that still the case? We were hoping to create a rectangular strip along the side. Is there a way to do that?

  • Hey Eric!

I just gave it a try and it looks like it's limited to the circle or a square shape (example below). If you're looking for more custom, the best alternative might be to have your team work on an icon/widget in your app that's dedicated to the resource center and use "Target Element" for the RC instead of the badge.

  • Hi Angus,

We started using Target Element instead of the badge as you mentioned and lost the badge notifications. Is there a way to push those notifications from Pendo into our app? If not, is there any other way to share notifications from resource center modules?

    Thanks for the help!

  • Hey Caleb J. Selders, the badge notifications should still work when you use the "target element" for your resource center. It should appear whenever a new announcement is added.

I don't believe there's a way to push those notifications into your app but the only notifications from RC should be from announcements, so I would give it another try by adding a new announcement, if it isn't working I'd reach out to support.

  • It looks like the simplest constraint here is the enforced drop-shadow? I tried making a custom icon that still fit within square dimensions, and the only thing that's quite clearly wrong is the shadow that the badge is trying to enforce:

If that could be disabled, then it would seem a lot easier to get a little more creative with icons.

  • I agree with @Matthew Hiller
I'm also looking for a way to remove the drop shadow from my custom RC icon. Is there a workaround to do it?

  • Hi Glenda Araya and Matthew Hillier,

If you're looking to adjust the drop shadow of the RC badge, you will have to do so by editing the global css (this can impact all guides in addition to RC), but you will have to do this by reverting to the Classic Designer and contact your CSM or support representative on this subscription setting change.

Lastly, if you do not wish to use the classic designer, I would recommend upvoting and submitting your feedback for this feature request in VDS. Hope this helps!
