Ask questions about your product data directly from Microsoft Teams and receive information about metrics, usage data, survey responses, and feedback. The Pendo agent can also generate downloadable reports and charts.
Prerequisites
To set up the Pendo agent in Microsoft Teams, you must have:
- Leo enabled for your Pendo subscription. This must be done by a subscription admin.
- The Ask Pendo in Microsoft Teams integration enabled. See Connect Microsoft Teams to Pendo. This must be done by a subscription admin.
Once connected, to use the Pendo agent in Microsoft Teams, you must have:
- An active Pendo user account.
- The Pendo app installed in Microsoft Teams.
Note: You can use the Pendo agent in any channel, group chat, or direct message in Microsoft Teams, including private channels.
How it works
Ask Pendo in Microsoft Teams is powered by the same technology that drives Leo in Pendo. It shares much of the same functionality, though some actions aren't available outside Pendo — for example, you can't create Pendo entities such as guides from Microsoft Teams. A Teams Administrator installs the Pendo app from the Microsoft Teams marketplace. Once installed, users can use the Pendo agent in any channel, group chat, or direct message and start asking questions about their product data.
Note: Microsoft Teams does not support ephemeral messages. If Pendo needs to authenticate your account, the bot sends a direct message (DM) to you privately instead of posting an in-channel message.
Step 1. Connect your Pendo account in Microsoft Teams
For all users in Microsoft Teams:
- Open the channel, group chat, or direct message where you want to use Pendo.
- In the message compose box, type @Pendo.
- Select the Pendo app from the suggestions list.
- If this is the first time messaging @Pendo, you receive a private message from the Pendo app asking to authenticate your account.
- Select Connect to Pendo. This opens an authentication page in your browser.
- Select Allow to accept the permissions and share information between your Pendo account and Microsoft Teams. This redirects you to a confirmation page. Close this tab and return to Microsoft Teams. You also receive a confirmation message in the chat with the Pendo app.
- Return to the thread in the original message where you mentioned Pendo.
Step 2. Ask a question
Once the Pendo app is added to a channel, group chat, or direct message, type @Pendo followed by your question in the message box.
Example: @Pendo How many visitors used the dashboard feature last week?
Note: You must start every message with @Pendo when talking to the agent in a channel, group chat, or thread. In a direct message with the Pendo app, you don't need to tag it.
After you send a question, the Pendo agent:
- Posts a "thinking" message to let you know it's processing your request.
- Responds with the AI-generated answer, including relevant metrics or data.
- Prompts you to rate the response with a thumbs up or thumbs down.
Download charts and reports
When the Pendo agent generates a chart or report in response to your question, you can download it directly from the Microsoft Teams conversation. Select the download option in the agent's response card.
Bot commands
Bot commands work in direct messages (DM) to the Pendo app. Type commands in the DM conversation with the Pendo bot rather than in a channel.
Best practices
To get the most out of your query, follow these tips for writing prompts:
- Ask focused questions. Specific, scoped questions return faster, more accurate results than broad open-ended prompts.
- Use shorter date ranges. Queries over shorter time periods are more performant and easier to interpret.
- Review results carefully. AI-generated responses should be verified against Pendo data before being used to make product decisions.
- Use threads for follow-up. Reply in the thread and @mention Pendo to continue a conversation — the agent maintains context automatically.

Troubleshooting
The bot doesn't respond to my question
- Make sure you @mentioned Pendo. In channels, group chats, and threads, you must tag @Pendo on every message to get a reply. In direct messages with the Pendo app, you don't need to tag it.
- Check that your Pendo account is connected. If not, the bot will DM you with a link to authenticate.
- Confirm the Pendo app has been installed in Microsoft Teams by a Teams Administrator.
I'm being asked to authenticate
Because Microsoft Teams does not support ephemeral messages, the bot sends authentication prompts as a direct message (DM). Check your DMs with the Pendo app and follow the prompts to connect your account.
I can't add the bot to a channel
- Confirm the Pendo app has been installed by a Teams Administrator. If it's not visible in the marketplace, ask your Teams Administrator to install it.
The agent returned an unexpected result
- Try rephrasing your question with a more specific scope (date range, feature name, segment).
- Use the thumbs down feedback button to flag the response. This opens a feedback form to add information about what went wrong.
