Collect feedback while you finish setting up Pendo Listen

Last updated:

Important: Classic Feedback will be retired on August 1, 2026. If you haven’t already, contact your Pendo representative to update your contract to Pendo Listen. After your contract is updated, you must request a data migration if you want to keep your existing classic Feedback data. For more information, see Migrate from classic Feedback to Pendo Listen.

If classic Feedback is being retired before your Listen portal is ready to launch, use this guide to keep collecting customer feedback in the interim.

Overview

Completing a full migration to Listen involves two parallel workstreams: the technical data migration and configuring your new Listen portal (setting up statuses, aligning your team's workflow, and preparing the visitor experience). If you're not ready to launch your Listen portal by August 1, you don't need to leave a gap in feedback collection while you finish that work.

This guide describes an interim approach: replace the classic Feedback portal with a simple Pendo poll guide that sends responses directly into Listen. This keeps feedback flowing from your customers while you complete your Listen setup behind the scenes. Once your Listen portal is ready, you retire the guide and redirect customers to the portal.

Interim transition steps

  1. Take down your classic Feedback portal. Classic Feedback will stop working on August 1, 2026. Any entry points you've built into your application—links, buttons, Resource Center modules, or Intercom integrations—will break on that date unless you remove them first. The widget view is the exception: it stops displaying automatically when Feedback is retired.

Remove entry points based on how visitors currently access classic Feedback:
    • Portal link or button: Remove the button or link from your application.
    • Widget view: The widget stops displaying automatically on August 1. If you want to remove it before then, unpublish it by going to Feedback > Settings > Visitor View.
    • Resource Center: Remove all visitors from the Feedback module segment, then delete the module.
    • Intercom integration: Remove the Feedback button from your Intercom Messenger home screen, then turn off the integration.
  2. Deploy a poll guide as your interim feedback channel. Create a Pendo guide with a text poll step to replace the classic Feedback portal. This keeps customers engaged and feedback flowing while your Listen portal is being finalized.
  3. Connect the guide to Listen. Connecting your poll guide to Listen sends responses automatically—both responses already collected and future responses. Once connected, responses are imported as feedback items within a feedback source associated with that guide.

To connect from the guide, go to Guides > open the guide > Settings > Listen card > Manage settings.

To connect from Listen, go to Listen > Feedback sources > Connect sources > Guide polls > Connect guide poll.

For full instructions, see Send guide poll responses to Listen.
  4. Request your historical data migration. In parallel, submit a migration request to Pendo Support to preserve your historical classic Feedback data in Listen. A Pendo admin must submit this request. For instructions, see Request the migration from classic Feedback to Pendo Listen.
  5. Launch your Listen portal and retire the interim guide. Once Listen is fully configured, publish your Listen portal as your permanent feedback channel. You can use a guide to notify and redirect customers to the new portal. Retire the interim poll guide once feedback is flowing into Listen directly.
