App catalog

Last updated:

This article explains how to use the App catalog to view and search all applications that can be detected by Pendo. The App catalog helps you understand which apps are configured in your account and which are being used by your employees.

Overview

The App catalog gives you a centralized view of all the apps that Pendo can detect. Apps already configured in your account are shown as managed. Apps that aren't configured in your account are shown as unmanaged. When app discovery is turned on, unmanaged apps are detected based on employee usage and surfaced in the Command Center.

Use the App catalog to search for specific apps, filter by status or category, and export the app list for further analysis.

For information about turning on app discovery and using discovered apps in the Command Center, see Discover unmanaged apps and agents with app discovery.

Prerequisites

Any user with access to the Command Center can view the App catalog. To detect unmanaged apps in your subscription, a subscription admin must turn on app discovery in your subscription settings.

How it works

To open the App catalog, select View app catalog in the Command Center or View the full app catalog in your Extension settings. Use the following options to explore your App catalog:

  • Search apps. Enter an app name or domain in the search bar to find specific apps.
  • Filter by status. Select Managed or Unmanaged to filter by app status.
  • Filter by category. Select one or more app categories to narrow the list.
    1. View app details. Hover over an app card to view its category, status, whether it's a default catalog or custom app, and associated domains. Apps installed using a code snippet don't show a domain.
    2. Export data. Select Download CSV to export a complete list of all apps in the catalog. The CSV export includes all apps and ignores any active search queries or filters. The exported file includes additional details, such as the managed app ID, manifest app ID, app name, description, category, known URLs, whether it's an AI app, origin, and type.

Add custom apps

Admin users can add custom apps to the catalog when an application isn't in Pendo's default catalog. Adding a custom app lets you monitor internal tools or specialized applications.

You can add a custom app whether or not app discovery is turned on. This lets you build the catalog first, then turn on app discovery knowing it contains the apps you want to monitor.

  1. In the App catalog, select Add app to catalog.
  2. Enter the App name.
  3. Select a Category.
  4. (Optional) Enter a Description.
  5. Enter the Domains associated with the app. Enter exact domain or subdomain matches. To add more, select Add another.
  6. Select Add app.

Custom app domains can't overlap with another app's domains. What happens depends on the conflict:

  • If a domain matches another custom app or a managed app, you can't save until you change it.
  • If a domain matches a default catalog app, you're asked to confirm replacing it.

Manage custom apps

To edit or delete a custom app you added, hover over its card in the App catalog, select the More actions (...) menu, and choose Edit or Delete.

You can edit custom apps where domains are exact matches. Some apps instead use a pattern called regex that matches many URLs at once. You can't edit those here, so to change one, request custom support.

When you delete a custom app, it's removed from your catalog. You can re-add it as a custom app later, but its historical data isn't restored.

If app discovery is turned off, the catalog displays a banner letting you know that apps aren't being detected. You'll still see the full list of apps Pendo can detect.
