Add Microsoft Dynamics 365 as a data source in Pendo Predict

Last updated:

Connect Microsoft Dynamics 365 to Pendo Predict to use your CRM data when building predictive models. After you connect your Microsoft Dynamics 365 environment, Predict can securely read data from Microsoft Dataverse and make it available as a data source for your models.

Setting up the connector has two phases:

  1. Add Microsoft Dynamics 365 as a data source in Pendo Predict.
  2. Configure Microsoft Entra and Dataverse.

Prerequisites

Make sure you have the following:

RequirementDetails
Microsoft Entra Global AdministratorRequired to grant tenant-wide admin consent.
Dataverse System AdministratorRequired to create the application user.
Pendo Predict Data Connector application IDProvided by your Pendo representative.
Admin consent linkProvided by your Pendo representative.

Note: Contact your Pendo representative before you begin to request the Pendo Predict Data Connector application ID and admin consent link. You'll need both to complete the setup.

Step 1: Collect your connection information

Gather the following information. You'll provide these values to Pendo later in the setup process.

ValueWhere to find itExample
Environment URL

Power Platform admin center > Environments > select your environment

yourorg.crm4.dynamics.com
Tenant ID (Directory ID)

Microsoft Entra admin center > Overview

6185d1eb-a785-...

Step 2: Configure the connection in Pendo Predict

  1. Click the Sources->Data connector on the Pendo Predict app
  1. Select New source and choose MS Dynamics 365.

  2. Enter a name for the connection.
  3. Enter your Environment URL and Tenant ID.
  4. Select Authorize to complete the connection.

Note: This registers the Pendo Predict application in your Microsoft Entra tenant. You'll grant access to your Dataverse environment in Step 3.

Step 3: Create the Dataverse application user

  1. Go to the Microsoft Power Platform admin center.
  2. Select Environments, then select the environment you want to connect.
  3. Go to Settings > Users + permissions > Application users.
  4. Select + New app user.
  5. Select + Add an app, then choose the Pendo Predict Data Connector application.
  6. Select the appropriate business unit.
  7. Assign a security role that includes at least read access to the Dataverse tables you want Predict to use.
  8. Select Create.

Note:

The required permissions depend on the predictive model you're building. Contact your Pendo Predict representative if you're unsure which Dataverse tables to grant access to.

Step 4: Manage the MS Dynamics data source

After you create the data source, you can test the connection and share it with other users.

  • To test the connection, select the More options icon (three dots), then choose Test connection.
  • To share the source, select the More options icon, then choose Share. When shared, other users can use the Microsoft Dynamics source when building predictive models.
