Lists supported for event properties

You can now use custom event properties configured as list types when adding report filters in Data Explorer and when building segments in the segment builder. Prior to this, any event properties that were configured as lists in Settings > Event Properties weren't available to use in Data Explorer report filters or segments. For more information about event properties, see Event properties.

Formula and event data in Data Explorer

When analyzing formulas in Data Explorer, the breakdown table now shows data for the individual events that contribute to each formula. If it's critical for your business partners to also see this information when looking at the report on a dashboard, you can also add these events to the chart visual with the Custom visibility option selected in the top-right corner of the chart section. For more information, see Data Explorer and Formula use cases.

Overview chart tooltips

You can now hover over charts in the following places to view trending information for the previous datapoint: Visitors and Accounts Overview pages; Page, Feature, and Track Event details pages; and the Total Time on App Per Week, Weekly Accounts, and Weekly Visitors dashboard widgets. These tooltips help provide context and clarity, empowering you to make informed decisions based on the latest trends. In instances where the trending information is "undefined", this indicates that the previous value was 0.

Improved date comparison in Data Explorer

When comparing date ranges in Data Explorer, the chart now displays the previous period with a dashed pattern, distinguishing it from the current period. This enhancement allows for clearer visualization, making it easier to compare current and previous data sets without confusion. For more information, see Data Explorer.

Increased limit for historical metadata

You can now enable historical metadata for up to 25 metadata fields. Previously, you could only enable five metadata fields as historical. For more information, see Historical metadata.

Workflows and journeys

Workflows and journeys are now generally available for all Pendo Analytics customers under Behavior > Workflows. Workflows helps you analyze process completion and identify optimal user journeys in your app. For more information, see Workflows.

Report descriptions

You can now add descriptions to funnel, path, Data Explorer, and retention reports to provide additional context to a report's purpose and value. Descriptions display in the recently viewed report tiles at the top of each report list page, within each Reports table, and on each individual report page beneath the report name. You can also search by description on each report list page to find relevant items quicker.

January 2024

Retention by First Use dashboard widget

The Core Events: Account Retention by Usage dashboard widget is now named Retention by First Use. With this change, you can now measure both visitor and account retention for any Feature, Page, and Track Event in your app. Prior to this change, you could only measure account retention of Core Events. For more information, see Retention by First Use widget.

Filter by guide status in Data Explorer

When adding guide view events to your Data Explorer query, you can now filter by guide status, including Public, Staged, Draft, Pending Review, and Disabled. This facilitates a quicker and more efficient process of sorting through and locating your guides when selecting events for your query. For more information, see Data Explorer.

Formulas in Data Explorer

Formulas are now generally available in Data Explorer to all Pendo Analytics customers. Formulas allow you to create reports that apply sum, ratio, and relative percentage calculations so that you can better understand behavior trends in your apps. For more information, see Data Explorer and Formula use cases.

Choose chart view in Data Explorer

You can now use the dropdown menu in the top-right corner of the Data Explorer chart to choose which values display in the chart. You can choose between showing the Top 10 values, based on the Summary data in the breakdown table, or Custom visibility, where you can choose the values that display in the table by selecting the eye icons in the breakdown table. For more information, see Data Explorer.

View trending data in Data Explorer

When you hover over a data point in a Data Explorer chart, you can now see trending information from the previous period in the chart. Whether it shows daily, weekly, or monthly depends on the date range selected in the query. For more information, see Data Explorer.

December 2023

Data Explorer chart education

We’ve updated the chart selector in Data Explorer to be a standard dropdown menu. You can now hover over each option to better understand when to use each chart type. For more information, see Data Explorer.

Descending bar charts in Data Explorer

Bar charts in Data Explorer now display in descending order based on the Summary values in the breakdown table. When choosing the order, Pendo only considers the items that are currently visible on the chart, which is determined by the visibility settings in the breakdown table. If you change the visibility in the breakdown table, the chart doesn’t update unless you rerun the report. For more information, see Data Explorer.

Grouped funnel details upon hover

You can now hover over funnel groups when using the Group By option to view step metrics and watch replay samples specific to that group. Prior to this change, you had to select a group in the chart to access this information in the breakdown table. For more information, see Funnels.

Favorite saved reports

You can now favorite specific reports on individual report list pages and on the Saved Reports page, which includes all report types. Sort the table using the star column, or use the star icon in the top filters to only show your favorite reports. This helps you quickly access the reports that matter most to you.

See recently viewed reports

You can now see your most recently accessed reports: at the top of each list page for each report type, at the top of the page when viewing a specific report, and on the Saved Reports page to view recently viewed of all report types. This allows you to quickly revisit and navigate between reports you view frequently.

Updated list pages

We've added distinctive icons for each report type to improve visual representation. You can find these icons on every list page, when selecting a report type from the Create report dropdown in the left-side menu, and on the Saved Reports page within both the table and recently viewed tiles. To provide additional clarity, each report-specific list page now includes a description for the report type and a link to the corresponding help article for more in-depth information.

Report creators

We've updated the report view to display additional information. Now, beneath the report title, you can see the creator of the report and the date it was last updated. Prior to this change, you could only view the report creator and the date it was last updated in the list page table.

Data Explorer measurements

We've refined the labels for event group measurements in Data Explorer to enhance clarity. Formerly labeled as Total, Median, Unique Visitors, and Unique Accounts, the measurements are now represented as Total events, Median events, Number of unique visitors, and Number of unique accounts.

November 2023

Name event groups

You can now name your event groups in Data Explorer for better data contextualization. This helps report creators and viewers have more clarity when interpreting the report data. For more information, see Add event groups.

Funnel improvements

You can now view median completion time in funnels, which provides insight into the typical completion time for most visitors in the funnel. You can now also use Previous and Next buttons to more easily navigate through grouped funnels. For more information, see Interpret your funnel.

Report list views

When you select a report option from the Behavior tab in the left-side menu, you are now directed to a list page that contains all available reports and a button in the top-right corner to create a new report. Prior to this change, selecting a report type from the left-side menu opened the creation of a new report. You can still access all saved reports, regardless of the report type, on the Saved Reports page by navigating to Behavior > View all reports.

Save retention reports

You can now create and save multiple retention reports. Once saved, you can access retention reports under Behavior > Saved Reports. For more information about retention reports, see Retention.

No grouping by Account ID at the visitor level

To reduce instances of unexpected and confusing results, you can no longer select Account ID as an option when grouping by visitor metadata in Data Explorer or funnels. This option is still available when grouping by account metadata.

Historical metadata

Historical metadata is now generally available for all Pendo subscriptions. When you update your visitor and account metadata as historical metadata, you can see the metadata values at the time they were stored for each event. This provides a more accurate view of user activity and allows you to track changes in behavior over time, rather than only seeing the value recorded on the latest event. For more information, see Historical metadata.

September 2023

Time calculations

Changes in global event properties no longer have an impact on "time on page" or "time on app" calculations. For more information about how we calculate time spent in your app, see Time on page and app calculations.

Group funnels by metadata

You can now group funnels by visitor and account metadata. This helps you analyze conversion rates among different groups of users and identify which groups are completing the funnel at a higher or lower rate. For more information, see Funnels.

Application usage segment rules

You can now create segment rules based on application usage, including if a visitor has ever used a specific app or if they used the app within a specific time period. These rules are eligible for guide targeting. For more information about segment rules, see Segments.

Visitor activity log hides inactive days

The visitor activity log now ignores days where the visitor wasn't active in your app. When using the date picker, inactive days are hidden and not available for selection. When selecting Previous day or Next day, you're now directed to the previous or next day with activity, rather than the previous or next calendar day. For more information, see View visitor activity.

August 2023

App filters added to dashboard widgets

You can now filter by app on the Guide Overview and Most Seen Guides dashboard widgets. This addition can help you better understand how a specific app's guidance program is doing.

Improved dashboard search

The search field in the dashboard directory now searches across all table fields with string (text) values, including the Created By and Last Updated By values. Prior to this change, the search field only considered name and description values.

Time-based segment rules for guide views

You can now create segment rules based on when a visitor viewed a specific guide. Previously, options were limited to Viewed = ever and Not Viewed = ever. Now, you can also choose Last Viewed and specify operators like since, beforewithin lastnot within last, and between along with specific dates or days. Additionally, for Viewed, you can now select at least and at most to indicate the minimum and maximum number of times a guide was viewed by a visitor. These rules are eligible for guide targeting. For more information about segment rules, see Segments.

Time to First Use dashboard widget

The Core Events: Time to First Use dashboard widget is now named Time to First Use. With this change, you can now measure how long it takes visitors to first engage with any Feature, Page, and Track Event in your app. Prior to this change, you could only select Core Events.

July 2023

You can now set your own default or "home" dashboard, which shows immediately upon logging into Pendo or selecting the Pendo logo in the top-left corner of the app. For more information, see Set a home dashboard.

Improvements to Data Explorer widget

When the Data Explorer dashboard widget shows a donut chart and is reduced to half width, the measure is now positioned above the chart and labels appear upon hover to enhance readability.

Dashboard widget clickthroughs

You can now click through to relevant Pendo pages from dashboard widgets. For example, the Guide Overview widget now displays View all guides and the the Visitor Frequency widget now displays View all visitors.

June 2023

Bullet alignment in Text Block widget

Center-aligned bullet points now follow text as expected. Prior to this update, bullet points were left-aligned regardless of text alignment, causing visual inconsistency. For more information about this widget, see Text Block widget.

Search account reports

You can now search for specific report names in the Account Reports tab on the Accounts page.

Frozen first column on user reports

The first column in visitor and account reports, which contains the Visitor or Account ID, now remains fixed while scrolling horizontally. For more information, see Interpret your visitor report or Interpret your account report.

Updated Details component

The entire Details dropdown component on the Details pages for visitors, accounts, Pages, Features, and Track Events is now clickable. This is aligned with how the component used to behave prior to a recent architectural change, which resulted in you having to select the dropdown arrow on the far-right side of the component.

Updated Segments table

Added a Last updated by column to the Segments table in People > Segments that lists the last Pendo user to update a segment.

Dashboard widget resizing

You can now resize the width of your dashboard widgets, allowing you to customize the display based on your preferences. With this update, you can adjust the width of widgets to occupy either half or the entire page. You can also adjust the height of the Text Block widget. For more information, see Modify dashboard widgets.

Delete Product Areas

You can now delete Product Areas that have items assigned to them, such as Pages in Pendo or Ideas in Validate. Before this update, you would have to remove the Product Area assignment from all of those items before you were allowed to delete the Product Area. For more information, see View and manage Product Areas.

Report-level filters

You can now apply event property filters at the report level in Data Explorer in the Report Filters section of the query builder. Report-level filters allow you to apply the filters to all events selected for the query, removing the need to apply the same filter to multiple events. Any filters applied at the report level override event property filters applied on individual events. For more information, see Apply event property filters.

April 2023

New metrics and design for funnels

Funnels now include two new metrics at the top of the Funnel section, above the chart: total conversion rate and average completion time. We also improved the funnel chart to use more accessible colors; contain step-specific data upon hover; and include clearer indications of how many visitors continued, dropped off, or completed the funnel. For more information, see Funnels.

Dashboard-level filters

You can now apply filters at the dashboard level. This allows you to update the segment, date range, app, or account for most widgets contained in a dashboard without having to edit every widget individually. For more information, see Filter your dashboard.

You can now apply up to five groupings in Data Explorer in the Group By section of the query builder. For more information, see Categorize with groupings.

Mobile global event properties

Mobile apps now support selecting a specific value when applying event property filters to events in Data Explorer. Before this update, you were required to enter these values manually. By default, the dropdown list only contains the first 400 values, but you can search across the entire range of values.

"Any Activity" event property filters

You can now use event property filters when reporting on Any Activity events in Data Explorer. Only global event properties are supported when viewing data for Any Activity. For more information, see Event properties in Data Explorer.

Guide eligibility in segments

The segment rule builder now displays whether your segment is eligible for guides. If the segment isn't guide eligible, you can hover over the info tooltip next to No to learn which rule makes the segment ineligible for guide targeting. For more information, see Ineligible segments for guide targeting.

Event property filters

You can now filter by event properties on individual events in Data Explorer, including specific device data and custom event properties. You can also search for and select specific values rather than needing to enter these values manually. For more information, see Apply event property filters.
